Even though you are planning a totally unique, totally fresh wedding, you might still want to include some tradition. I like the idea of putting your own spin on the “somethings”. First, you might ask, why do we do Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue. The old is to stand for a bride’s ties to her past; the new represents her hope for the future; the borrowed item is something that’s dear to a close friend or family member — and must be returned to ensure good luck; and the blue is thought to come from an Israeli tradition, when brides wore blue ribbons to symbolize fidelity. Are you having a hard time coming up with what, exactly, to use or where for these items? We have a great idea for your something blue, from Molly at b.mookie - beautiful, dramatic blue earrings. From Molly- “Today I am so happy to share with you my favorite bride of the year! I can say that…because it is my dear sister, Robin. I was honored when she asked me to create a custom set of blue teardrop earrings for her wedding day. Robin has a great sense of style and I adore her sense of adventure. So, the process of her “Something Blue” earrings began! She knew before she even found her dress that she wanted some astonishing earrings. One signature piece to set off her natural beauty. As she browsed through my previous creations and jewelry portfolio she found a pair and style that she loved. After making a few design changes and adding a wonderful pop of blue hues…..the decision was made and so began the construction. Everyday, I emailed her photos of the steps and process as I wanted her to be involved and be assured that together, we could make this vision come through. I began with the frame work and we worked together measuring the earrings to insure the drops would hit at the length she desired. I taught myself to bezel set gemstones especially for her earrings! As you will see, the inspiration for the color palate began with the vibrant blue topaz gemstone that is bezel set in the center oval of the earrings. An aquamarine Swarovski crystal roundelle was placed on top of the silver ball once the blue topaz gemstones were set. The framework was complete and final shaping took place.
I then wrapped the bottom teardrop with fine silver wire. A wonderful array of wires that add depth and sparkle to the gemstones and crystals in various shades of blue. A lovely way to display the pale blue aquamarine gemstones and Swarovski crystals in: capri blue, aquamarine and air blue opal. I loved making them and hope she enjoyed every moment of her day in them! She did not disappoint…she made the earrings look beautiful. She even outshined them…{of course} she was absolutely STUNNING!”
